Everybody rushed on deck the moment that the sun thus glistened, and they got to the spot where they could see it best. And we all of us, with a kind of strange joy, hailed that gleam, that flash of sunlight on the sea. And it seemed to have taken us at once into a new world.
DESPITE IT ALL
And here in this psalm, amid all the storm, did you hear it pelt, as I read it? Here is David talking to God, and David's soul is disquieted. And then all at once there is a gleam, yes, as that gleam of hope comes, he begins to blend prayer and praise together, and says: "I will sing, sing in the night, in the quiet and silent darkness I will sing."

During the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th century, German pastor Paul Gerhardt and his family were forced to flee from their home. One night as they stayed in a small village inn, homeless and afraid, his wife broke down and cried openly in despair. To comfort her, Gerhardt reminded her of Scripture promises about God’s provision and keeping. Then, going out to the garden to be alone, he too broke down and wept. He felt he had come to his darkest hour.

Taking his pen, he wrote a hymn that has brought comfort to many. “Give to the winds thy fears; hope, and be undismayed; God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears; God shall lift up thy head. Through waves and clouds and storms He gently clears the way. Wait thou His time, so shall the night soon end in joyous day.”
It is often in our darkest times that God makes His presence known most clearly. He uses our sufferings and troubles to show us that He is our only source of strength. And when we see this truth, like Pastor Gerhardt, we receive new hope.--Our Daily Bread

Like the first line of that that Pastor's son - give to the wind your fears - such a powerful image! Lovely sunburst here (I know about running outside to catch a sunburst for a sunset! But with the waves it's even more stunning!
