From my study in Hebrews; imagining how the letter was first heard
I keep listening as the letter is read aloud: “So we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard…”
Then comes the word: παραρρυῶμεν—to drift past, to slip by. A quiet word. No storm in it.
In my mind, I see a boat,
not breaking loose,
just slowly moving past its mooring.
Believing in Messiah has become costly. Attention feels risky.
But God has spoken, in Messiah.
The tide keeps pulling. How do I keep from drifting… and where does the strength come from to stay anchored when it becomes this hard?
I keep listening.
Soon, when the reading ends,
we will sing together.
That helps me hold on.
It keeps me focused on the Messiah.
